From musical theatre to social dramas..
It was the time of musical theatre in Malabar during 1920s. Often played in open fields as an entertainment, musical theatre was close to people’s hearts. But these musical dramas stood apart from the socially committed dramas played in the capital city during those days of king rule. Musical dramas gave prominence to acting and there was no use of other complexities of theatre like stage settings, curtains and lighting. There was a need for a change from musical theatres to a higher level which would resemble the royal dramas of Trivandrum.
