Bala Vedi

Bala Vedhi previously know as Balasangam has been a major wing of Desaposhini Library. It was in 1955 that it was formally organised under the chairmanship of M.P.Sankaran Nambiar and the convernorship of the young A.P.Balakrishnapillai. It is considered to be the first of its kind under a library in Kozhikode district. The children of the age between six and fourteen were allowed to be members without any membership fee. There is a separate children’s library from which they can loan books without fee. From the very beginning there were classes of dance and music for the members.The members of Balasangam  at early times took part in AIR Balalogam programmes. Several of the present office bearers are members of Desaposhini are the old Balasangam members. Balasangam has now renamed as Balavedi.
