About Library

The Desaposhini Public Library is an invaluable source of treasure for students, researchers, career seekers and all book lovers alike. The library which started in 1937 with 438 books, now showcases 51000 printed books and almost 2 lakhs of digital books. Like any other library, the primary vision of Desaposhini was to expand the number of books which often defines the strength of the library. But with the passage of time the library’s focus has shifted from merely growing the number of books to fulfilling reader’s requirement and moving parallel to their changing demand. The Library has now started collecting books on career development, self motivation, IAS coaching etc as per reader requests and there is no doubt why this establishment becomes the hot spot for the bibliophiles. Fully computerized from 2005, Desaposhini has 1200 odd active members and a rare collection of old books which is now out off  stand from any publisher. The diary of an Indian National Army (INA) soldier and copies of old dailies including ‘Prabhatham,’ published under EMS,  are a few sparkling gems in the archive section. The library was selected for the EMS Award in 2004 for the best library from among the libraries in the State that completed 50 years.

With the recent addition of Kindle E readers, this library  becomes first in the country to loan E reader to the members. Library has now 5 Kindle E reader and almost 2 lakh digitized version of books ranging from fiction, speeches, culinary notes, poems, manuals, health, agriculture etc. Even though you may miss the nostalgic aroma of papers, this product will give you almost an equivalent experience of paper reading. Whether you are inside your room or spending the evening in your garden, the E Reader screen will show all qualities of original paper.
