It was in 1952 that Desaposhini formed a Kala Samithi as its arts wing under the guidenship of Sri Thiikkodian who became desaposhini’s permanent playwrite and its ” soul of arts”. The first drama written by Thikkodian for desaposhini was Pazhaya Bandham, a modified stage version of AIR drama NIDHI. It was presented for the anniversary of Desaposhini under the direction of library secretary O.Choyikutty and it was a played by a team which had included Kunhandi, Nellikode Bhaskaran, Bhaskaran’s sister Komalavalli, the first actress of Desaposhini.and she became a noted actress of malabar theatre.it was a time when a woman were known socially who were permitted to act on stages but after the arrival of Nellikode Komalam Desaposhini breaks the social attitude.
Desaposhini Kalasamithi participated in many drama festivals ,its participation in first drama festival was conducted by malabar kendra kalasamithi at kozhikode and played thikkodian’s Jeevitham and it earned for the library a bundle of prizes including first prize for drama presentation,second prize for script.and first prize for best actor and actress.in terms of players apart from kunhandi and nellikode bhaskaran desaposhini contributed to the theatre and film world such actors as Kuthiravattom Pappu ,Sri Venu ,Sri .Balan .K Nair. from 1953 onwards Desaposhini presented dramas for other institutions for the fund collection campaign outsidr kerala.it has started winning national level honours for drama programmes . Drama called PAVATHAN NADU written by P.M Taj has won national claim.
Every year Desaposhini Kalasamithi conducted ” nadaka sayanham ” and played various dramas which were momorable moments for the people gathered for this programm.
